Lib Dems hot and bothered !

It seems the Lib Dems are getting desperately hot under the collar and it’s not the weather that’s causing the problem !

In a third election leaflet John Field - in his own words “your dependable, honest and local councillor” (!!) – shows all the signs of a man under pressure with an unprecedented and totally untrue attack on Suffolk Together and our candidate Michael Blakenham.

Field, who has been on Suffolk County Council for eight years, though one has to scour the records to find anything of any note he has actually said in that time, labels us as a small group of landowners with our own wish list and no achievements. The latter point is untrue but unlike him we haven’t had representation at County Council level for eight years during which the Lib Dems have done their usual sitting on the fence act on many critical issues. At District level much has been achieved and reported to the local parish councils.

And as far as being landowners is concerned it shows, yet again, an alarming lack of knowledge for our membership covers a whole range of people including, a very small number of landowners,  but with the vast majority of members being ordinary local people – and yes, Mr Field, we even have some who live in Council - owned property and mobile homes  !

He further accuses us of being a one - issue party  campaigning on Snoasis and nothing else. Clearly he hasn’t read this website or, indeed, our election material that (a) doesn’t campaign on Snoasis but (b) lists all our policies on the key issues.

It’s clear that the Lib Dems are rattled by what they are hearing on the doorsteps. Remember their MPs have been named in the national expenses scandal – avoid the party that tells lies – and vote for Suffolk Together on June 4th.

Peter,

In response to the Lib Dem literature I received today I would like to pledge my support for Suffolk Together. I will also like to take this opportunity to reassure you that the electorate do not share the same skewed view of the party and it’s candidates that the Lib Dems clearly inexplicably hold. It is blindingly obvious that John Field is trying to deflect attention from his own parties expenses indiscretions, and failure to achieve anything significant at local or national level by attempting to start an outdated and irrelevant debate on class.

Fortunately the electorate are intelligent enough to look beyond “non-issues” and see that Suffolk Together is a party run and supported by people invested personally, financially and emotionally in the betterment of Suffolk as a county who therefore have the understanding and the will to work in it’s best interests.

All John Field has served to illustrate is how much of a threat his and the other “mainstream” parties feel Suffolk Together are.

James Warren, Bramford.

I’d like to pass on a personal message to John Field through your website – John, the leaflet you put out today is not worthy of you or your party. For decades the liberal and latterly the Liberal Democrats have stood for 2 clear things – first yours is a party of thoroughly decent and honest people like David Steel, Menzies Campbell and Vince Cable and second your party is delightfully devoid of either policies or actions. The Liberal Democrats have for years served as the pressure valve of British life in being the party that people vote for when they are fed up with the two main parties – everyone knows that the Lib Dems are harmless because they agree with everyone and never actually do anything.

But through today’s’ personal and cheap attacks on good local people, you have shown yourself only worthy of the second of these attributes. Just where was your voice over the past 8 years as our County Councillor when important local issues like the stupidity of building houses and a school next to a giant incinerator or a leisure complex next to a waste dump and a fuel storage depot. Where – on the fence like the rest of your party saying “well there are two sides to every argument”.

We want people who can show some leadership as our councillors or we will get what we have in recent years – the career bureaucrats like Suffolk’s £220,000 chief executive telling local people what they can have while sheep-like councillors baa in the background. It’s not just MP’s with their nose in the trough!

John, if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen and make way for someone who can stand up to the bureaucrats. Just don’t demean yourself and your party in the process.

Sir,

I strongly object to John Field’s assertion that Suffolk Together is some sort of elite bunch of local landowners. Suffolk Together is a breath of fresh air in the fetid stink of corrupt party politics – ordinary local people daring to stand up to the old, tired party machines of corrupt national parties.

Michael Blakenham and Steve Wright have done more for local people in the 2 years they have served as Suffolk Together Distract councillors than years of the ineffective bunch of yes-men (and women) who nod through every barmy scheme that either Mid Suffolk or Suffolk County Council come up with. The Lib Dems have been every bit as bad as the Tories and Labour at taking us for a ride and milking the system – why should we listen to distorted and venomous attacks on decent ordinary people trying to make a change for the better.

Suffolk Together – you’ll be getting my vote of Thursday!

If Suffolk Together is a one issue party, then what exactly am I looking at on this website – a whole range of policies from Incinerators to aircraft noise, from Post Offices to local crime? And a very open and up to dare approach of using open blogs to get tee views of ordinary Suffolk people.

John Field is clearly hot and bothered about a real bit of local democracy coming to the fore and catching him out for being a totally and utterly ineffective County councillor. If he had been doing his job, we wouldn’t have the total screw up which is local planning in Gt. Blakenham.

As was recently aimed at the Speaker in the House of Commons, the sentiments of the house in the Norway debate apply here Mr Field!

In other words go now!
