Health

At the District  Council level Suffolk Together have campaigned for the retention of local surgeries so that  elderly people and those without cars have access to medical facilities without having to travel too far.  If elected to the County Council we will be in a much stronger position to argue for the retention of specialist facilities within the county.  It isapparent that  many of our county specialist facilities are being transferred outside the county on the grounds that  other counties have better specialist units and that Suffolk residents would have better treatment if they travelled outside the county. This not only ignores what happens in time -critical or frequent -visit cases, but it totally begs the question as to why Suffolk can't have its own top flight specialist units.

It appears to us that the county is quiite happy to import other counties waste materials for incineration with its attendent health risks on the one hand and at the same time is setting about exporting our specialist medical facilities on the other. We don't believe that this is satisfactory.  Will you help us put this right?

Michael, I see Mr Alcock is writing to the EA to say that incineration cannot be shown to be dangerous! to health! Can we not ask him if it is safe? He quotes a source - can he show that this source has been peer reviewed?

My concern is that safety discussion obscures the real principle of the CC deciding what is good for us without any meaningful consultation. Suffolk Together has a stance that is opposed to this form of CC decision making. There has to be a balance in which the elected members question the officers about future policy - rather than be told what the officers have decided the policy is. Or a dominant political party being able to force a policy through without debate and negotiation.

I believe there has been no peer review and I regret to say that consultants who are paid , often come up with a conclusion that is favorable to their client .  This is a fact of life.                          The only public consultation that has taken place is to ask if you would like energy from waste, to which everybody of course answers Yes.  But there are other less damaging methods of producing enetrgy from waste that the Council ignores.
